長 衫 狂 想 曲 Cheongsam Rhapsody / 19.11 - 04.12.2022

有一天，收買佬送來一叠五六個的皮箱木櫳，大概是想這空間會是它們延續生命的歸處。打開箱子竟然發現裡面放滿大堆長衫和雜物，從箱內的一份一九五六年的報紙、長衫形態和物料造功，推斷是以長衫為日常服的年代，跨越由二十至六十年代，由小裁偷襟到立裁修身，由真絲無袖到𢵧棉到皮草夾裡，正反映著這些年代某女子大半生的春夏秋冬。 

這些長衫，這個空間，就像是失散的鄰居，在這裡重逢，我們以張愛玲的文字作藍本，以這堆百年舊衣物引領大家想像長衫的過去與未來。

One day, we salvaged a trolley of old trunks and suitcases from a demolition site on Ki Lung Street. Since then these antiques have found a new home and a new possibility. When we opened the suitcases and trunks, we found a lot of cheongsams and sundries inside. From a newspaper in 1956, and based on the cutting and details of the cheongsam, we suspected they were from the era when cheongsam was still the daily attire of Hong Kong, spanning from the 1920s to 1960s, reflecting the four seasons of the lady who used to own all these history and stories. These cheongsams, this exhibition space, are like our long-lost neighbour, reuniting with Eileen Chang’s sartorial text, which was written around the same era on cheongsam fashion. We wish to take you to a journey with these century-old cheongsams not only to imagine lives from the past but to reimagine the future of cheongsam with the event’s talks and workshops.
